Imperfection is part of our human state, but should it be accentuated for the sake of being human?

Embrace Imperfection

I have found chatgpt to be helpful when I get stuck with something, especially technical questions about my website. I also run some of my descriptions for products through chatgpt to help create a more polished description and make sure I don’t miss information that would be helpful. I do find that it is only as helpful as the information that I input though.

Today, just for fun I asked it what blog posts were trending currently, art or otherwise, and the response was very interesting. I got 5 different options, all of them art related but the first one was the most interesting to me, so I thought I would share my thoughts on it. And, just so you know, my blog posts are never run through any kind of an AI program before I publish them. If you’ve read them very long, you’ll probably have seen the spelling and grammatical errors!

The title chatgpt gave was:

โ€œEmbrace Imperfection: Why โ€˜Imperfect by Designโ€™ Is the Next Big Creative Movementโ€

I think the reason I found it so interesting was because it was generated by AI. The source it pulled from was Canva. We are now in an age where AI is getting so good at fooling us that it’s become difficult to tell what is real and what is AI generated.

I wonder if the reason people are looking for imperfections in design, art, creativity, etc. is because that is where the humanity is found.

As an artist, I find it easy to tell my art from others or from AI because I can see all the imperfections in it. But I don’t often point them out to people! But, I also don’t hide them. The artwork that I create is authentically me, imperfections and all. I have been told certain pieces of my art look as good as a photograph, and then there’s other art that is really just fun to play around with, and not too many people will ever see it.

But, I also don’t try to be imperfect right from the beginning. I have faith enough in myself to know that the finished product will be beautiful, even if just to me, but I also know that it’ won’t be perfect. However, I don’t set out to make it imperfect either, so my designs don’t ever start out with this idea of making it imperfect in some way.

Creating is something that AI will never be able to take from us I don’t believe, at least not yet! It can generate information and pictures based upon what information is already available, but it cannot come up with a new concept or paint a beautiful piece of original artwork that is real and human.

I had a young lady tell me about an interaction she had had with a friend concerning art. I cannot remember the exact way she phrased this, so it’s not a direct quote. They were talking about art, and her friend said she used to not believe in God. But with AI generated images she has discovered that there is a God, because real, authentic, human created art has a soul and that comes from God.

So, if you’re an art lover, and want to support real, human artists with real souls, steer clear of AI generated art and find a local artist near you (or right here!) and support them instead of AI, embracing the imperfect perfectness that we as humans can create.
