The Greatest Gift

When I open up the back side of my website, there is a small box that gives prompts or ideas for possible blog post ideas. Sometimes I read through them and they give me good ideas, but not very often. The first one this morning caught my attention though, so I thought I would share my thoughts.

The question was: What is the greatest gift someone could give you.

First, Jesus Christ has given me the greatest gift, the opportunity to repent and return to my Heavenly Father. But, with the Christmas season wrapping up, there is one gift that I desire and cherish more than the rest. The gift of time. I was actually thinking about this yesterday, so it was very interesting that this prompt came up today.

Yesterday morning one of my daughter’s was here early because her husband was helping my husband haul coal from Healy. She came in to the kitchen when I came in to get my breakfast, and we sat down and started to talk. I was able to get breakfast and get my kitchen cleaned, but we visited the whole morning. I usually do quite a number of things in the morning, exercise, shower, clean things, but yesterday morning I sat and talked. She had quite a number of things on her mind, and it was nice to listen and share ideas.

After we visited, I did get a quick shower and exercising done. When I came back down, I got a couple of things done. I sat down to eat some lunch and was joined by both my daughters and my other son-in-law. We sat and visited for over an hour about all sorts of things, life, politics, religion, it was a good visit. As I sat there listening, I was again grateful to be able to sit and visit with my kids and that they were able to sit and enjoy the afternoon together as well.

That evening my kids had a dinner date with friends, and my husband and I got to spend the evening together. We drove to Wasilla and had some dinner and picked up a couple of items we needed and then headed home. I actually really love that we’re 30 miles from town because that gives he and I time to visit and enjoy each other’s company on both ends of our date.

I ended the day grateful for the family that took time to be together today and miss the ones who are away serving the Lord. I am grateful for time. In reality it is really all we do have to give to others, whether it’s in the time it takes to earn the money to buy something, the time it takes to create something to give, or the time we take to visit. I don’t need more things, but I do love memories and time.
