Decorating for a beautifully simple but elegant wedding dinner.

Greenhouse Wedding Dinner

This past Saturday my 2nd daughter got married. She is a very private person so I won’t show pictures of her or talk about the wedding, but I do want to share the beautiful setup for her dinner. I’ll share the pictures at the end of the post since they’re all bigger pictures. My daughter (Katie Tolbert), who decorated is also a professional photographer and she took all these pictures.

If you’ve been reading for a while, you know we built a greenhouse this spring. We live in Alaska, and in order to extend the growing season on either end, some sort of greenhouse or hot house is convenient. I was able to grow tomatoes successfully for the first time ever. I was also able to grow green beans, herbs, a few peppers, and one cucumber. But all that’s done.

We decided that since the weather is getting cooler, we would set up for dinner in the greenhouse. We had to haul out the beds, which I’m grateful we didn’t permanently attach to the walls. We then got the floor mopped and moved in the tables and chairs.

Then my older daughter started decorating. We didn’t do anything to the building because it’s all windows and the beautiful fall leaves were plenty of decoration. The tables needed work though, so we got three set up end to end to make a long, family style dinner table. We set up a fourth table along the back wall for the food.

We started with sage green table clothes and topped those with a shiny crepe type fabric down the middle as an accent. Then my daughter added oil lamps, along with tall, medium and short glass cups with candles. Small flower vases with just a couple of sprigs of flowers in white, pink, or blue and eucalyptus finished off the decorations.

Then we raided the dinnerware my mother-in-law gave my girls before she passed away. She loved decorating for dinners and had a large variety of amber ware type glass in a variety of colors. My daughter decided to go with a variety of colors. Each of the colors of glass had matching colors of napkins, and all put together, it turned out beautifully.

We are not huge partier type people, and this quiet family dinner was a perfect way to celebrate this beautiful couple. We wish them so much happiness and love in their future endeavors.
