Security can mean quite a few different things, there’s security in a building, like people guarding it, security in a relationship, security in a country, security in an airport, just to name a few.
I have noticed a trend over the last few years where people are seeking security in two ways. They want the country to be secure to the point of limiting freedoms, and they want to be secure within themselves.
First, security of country, in our cities, homes, and overall.
I find it interesting to watch people seek measures to restrict fellow citizens and then go about breaking laws themselves all in the name of freedom. Security in our country comes as we all seek to obey basic laws and then help and encourage others around us to do the same.
But I think in this day and age, the upcoming generations haven’t even studied the law, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, or researched how this country came to be. I don’t know where they get their ideas of what freedom vs security is, but feeling secure in our country doesn’t come by way of more laws, changing long standing laws that were God-given, or dividing a country because of disagreements.
Security in community and country comes by obeying basic laws and principles that govern moral people. Security in community and country comes by holding people accountable for their actions when they don’t obey those basic laws. Security in country and community comes as we help one another. Not by dividing, fighting, shutting down dialogue, etc.
Which leads me to number two, security in self.
There are a lot of angry people out there. And it feels to me like most of the angry people are angry because they want to be able to do whatever they want and not only not suffer the consequences, but also make others accept whatever “reality” they choose to put forth that day.
Some of the people whom I know love me the most, whom I feel the most secure with, would never put up with my BS or an alternate reality. They cheer me on, they help me grow, and they tell me when my perspective is off, when I need to readjust my course, when my “reality” isn’t real.
There are a lot of great healthcare workers out there, so this isn’t targeting them as a whole, but there are a rising number of healthcare workers who have chosen to ignore science based, factual information in order to accept people as they are, and play along with their delusions and their skewed realities. This doesn’t create security, in fact, it leads to more unrest and less feelings of security overall.
The reason, in my opinion, is because we are not simply mortals. We have spirits within us that are eternal. Spirits that understand to a great extend right and wrong, and when our actions aren’t consistent with whom we know we could and should be deep down, it creates a rift between our spirit and our mortal body. There can’t be a feeling of personal security when there is unrest within the soul.
Our country was founded on God-given principles and morals. Anyone who disputes that hasn’t read anything from our founding fathers. In order to have peace, security, and freedom, we need to return to those morals, and be a more God-fearing nation. We need to remember why we were granted our freedom and who granted it, as well as remember the blood spilt by those who have fought for God and country.
In order to return to a people who individually feel security and peace, we need to return to living moral lives, based on absolute truth (which does exist). Absolute truth is found in Jesus Christ, His teachings and example. Fortunately we can each feel that peace and security within ourselves and it doesn’t have to come from any external, worldly source.
We can also surround ourselves with others seeking for the same kind of peace and security. Once we have that peace and security within ourselves, we can reach out and share that with the world, one person at a time.
