We are moving on with the greenhouse. My husband thought his summer job was going to start in early May, so he said I would get the greenhouse but nothing else, which I thought was great. I planted all my plants in pots with that in mind.
The job however, did not start in early May, in fact, it probably won’t start until next week. Consequently, he has had time to get my greenhouse beds all built and into the greenhouse.
The beds are made out of the same rough cut lumber that we built the greenhouse out of. The beds were built out of a lot of the leftover stuff that he felt wasn’t structural enough for the actual building, or it had a lot of bark edges on it.

Consequently, the size varies a little bit, but they measure approximately 8 1/2 feet long by 2 feet wide. I was not sold on the idea of moveable benches at first, but now that they are in there, I like the idea, and I love how they look in the greenhouse all finished.
They are not full of soil yet. We have a huge pile of top soil and peat from our property that we scraped off of several areas around our house and then just piled for later use. We decided to use at least some of that for these beds, but I will be adding some less dense potting soil or something like that as well so it doesn’t compact too hard.
That takes a screening process to get out the big chunks and rocks, plus I want to sift through it to get out any weeds that may have made their way into the pile. This will be a summer project, rather than a right now project as all my plants are already potted in big enough pots to grow for the season.

We did partially fill one bed, and I had a few more tomatoes to plant, so I got that done in that little bit of soil. It’ll be fun to see how those tomatoes do in comparison to the ones in the pots. If I get more soil screened this week, I may still buy a few more plants if there’s anything left at the greenhouses.
This project has been a long time coming, and I have been so excited, every single day, to look out and see my greenhouse, to walk out there and stand in the warmth, to see my plants starting to really grow. The whole thing makes my heart happy! You can check out the video of building the beds here.
