We are moving along on our greenhouse build. In my previous update here I talked about sawing up the lumber from the logs we harvested on our property. The walls required 6×6 posts, 6×6 top beams, and 2×6 bottom plates and window bottoms.

My husband then took the top and bottom plates and made notches that would receive the posts so that they would not twist as badly, at least that’s the hope! We then hauled all the material out to the site and proceeded with the build.
We laid out each wall individually and then stood the completed wall before moving on to the next wall. The first wall took the longest time. Even though my husband builds homes for a living, timber framing is a little bit different, so there was a little bit extra time initially to get going. The rest of the walls went together fairly quickly, and in just a few hours we had a box!
The whole structure is held together by timberlock screws in various lengths as per the different thicknesses of the different plates and window ledges. The walls were then screwed down to the floor, again with the timberlock screws. The top beams were cut at 45 degree angles so that both sides could come together at the corner and sit on a single corner post.

This project has been a long time coming, literally years and years. I didn’t think it was going to happen. I even threatened to sell the windows, just a year or so ago, because I didn’t think it ever would. But now that I see the whole process moving along, I am so excited! There is a YouTube video on my channel about the wall framing that you can view here.
We have moved on past the walls, but I have another video I am getting ready to edit with the next steps, so I will tell you all about it when that gets finished. Hopefully soon!
