Spring is coming, and I am grateful for a great weekend to rest and reset. Here’s why.

Spring Updates

We have been really busy this spring, as usual. Spring has been weird, it started in January. Just kidding. We did have spring like temperatures in January and February, and this got me excited for summer! Then March was a little cooler, but warmed up again toward the end. April has started out feeling even more spring like than ever!

First off, goals. They are always changing. They probably shouldn’t be, but as I figure out better what I want to do, I adjust my goals and priorities, at least some of them. Chinese is going well, and I get in at least 4 lessons per week. Not much to share there.

The hardest goal to accomplish I didn’t expect, the YouTube videos. But I got a new video editing program, and the learning curve has been huge. I did recently post a video about my book, In The Details that you can view here. I have another filmed, with an experience my son, daughter, and I had that goes along with the book that I’m getting ready to edit, as well as a lot of footage on how we’re getting the lumber for our greenhouse build. I’m finally getting that more solidly going.

As an artist, I have always had one type of art that has been out of reach, so to speak. People. I don’t paint people. I have tried. It isn’t the actual painting that has been the issue however, it’s the drawing and getting the dimensions correct. Even when I trace the people, there is always something that seems off, so I have been taking a people drawing course, and I have enjoyed it immensely.

The little lambs that I painted, one white with black spots, and one black.

This weekend has been the General Conference for my Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This happens twice a year and are two of our favorite weekends throughout the year. It’s a time to get spiritually fed while getting physically rested because we make sure there are few other demands for the entire weekend. We build puzzles, do some knifty knitter projects, I paint, sometimes crochet, we play quiet strategy games during the sessions, and hang out together. Consequently, I have a fun completed painting of lambs, and am working on some berries which I will complete the last session.

Rhubarb just coming up through the snow.

Lastly, on Friday I went to one of the local greenhouses because they had advertised herbs for sale. I bought basil, thyme, rosemary, and parsley. It was so fun to go into the greenhouse and see all the growing plants! This made me even more excited for spring and summer. Then yesterday afternoon between conference sessions, I walked out by my garden, and low and behold, my rhubarb had started to sprout, right out of the snow. This is a sure sign that spring is definitely on its way!
