The land that my husband and I own has a creek that flows through it. Right out my windows is a large swampy area that the creek flows through and floods depending on the year and how wet it is. It usually does this flooding in the summertime.
I looked out my dining room window after we got home from Church, and the creek had flooded a large portion of our swampy area. Several of us decided to go see how frozen it actually was.

There were a few places with holes right over the actual creek bed, but the water had spread out covering around a 10 acre area in a thin layer that then froze. It wasn’t the smoothest ice, and with the lack of snow there’s a fair amount of exposed bushes here and there, but it’s relatively smooth and absolutely beautiful!
One of my sons went back inside and put on ice skates. We then proceeded to follow the creek out of the swamp and into the trees. Once the creek hit the road we decided to walk over to the lake to see how the ice was there. Because of all the rain we got in January, my son was able to ice skate down the road the 3/10 mile to the lake.

Once on the lake we walked back to where the creek exits and followed it back down to our driveway and then walked back home. Although it’s warm out (15 degrees F), we were in the shade for most of the walk and got home fairly chilled. One of my daughter’s made homemade hot cocoa when we got home.
It was a beautiful walk. Because of the ice we haven’t been walking as much as we should be, so it was so good to get out in nature for over an hour. Makes me even more excited for spring to come!
