I am going to postpone my goals for 2025 for a bit. I am thinking that direction but haven’t sat down to write them down. I have several in mind, but I just need to sit down and make a plan for them before I share them here.
In the mean time, I read a question – do you spend more time dwelling on the past or the future. I thought that the New Year was a great time to share my thoughts on that subject.
I love reliving memories with my family, I love when a smell or an encounter or experience reminds me of something nostalgic. But I spend most of my time looking ahead rather than looking behind. There are definitely lessons to be learned from experiences of the past. Hopefully as I go along I’m pulling those lessons out of my experiences and carrying the lessons along in life, but I don’t usually feel the need to relive the experiences. Especially since most of the big learning experiences came through trials and challenges.
This week as a family I asked what everyone had learned from 2024. There were some great lessons learned. For me it was that I can do the things I set my mind to. I can organize my time and break my goals down into manageable pieces, and I can do whatever it is I choose to do. This one lesson however, I keep learning year to year.

But, as I look back, I do see progress. The things I once found hard have become easier. I have done many awesome things over the years, that 25 years ago I never would have dreamed of doing. A lot of it seemed hard at the time, but looking back, with the experience I have gained, I realize that while yes, at the time it was difficult, I have grown, gained more knowledge, gained experience and understanding. That is what I try to take into the future.
I also find the future much more exciting to dwell on. There are so many possibilities. The past is set, it can’t be changed, but the future can be molded as much as I am willing to work to mold it. I am excited for 2025, I am excited for all the years ahead. I am excited to share the goals I have and the direction I want to take my life. But, that will have to wait until next time!
