Would You Rather

Today I just wanted to do a fun post. When my kids were growing up I used to ask them “would you rather” questions just to pass the time, especially on long car rides or long waits in various places. Today I thought I would share some fun art related would you rather questions and my answer. Leave me a comment with your answers as well!

1 – Would you rather have a real life portrait or a cartoon portrait painted of you?

This one I have mixed feelings. My style is a more realistic style, but I did attempt to draw caricatures. I gained a new appreciation for those who sit and draw caricatures in 15 minutes of people! It is not an easy task, but I decided it would be really fun to go and get one done, so I would say first, cartoon portrait, but it would be fun to have the other as well.

2 – Would you rather carve a bunny out of a bar of soap or a bar of chocolate?

This one is easy, bar of chocolate. Mostly because I don’t know how to carve anything and so at least I could eat the chocolate!

3 – Would you rather paint from a photo or from your imagination?

I almost always paint from reference photos of some kind. Sometimes it’s multiple photos, but I do like having the reference, even if it’s just for the idea and I change things. I am working on painting from my imagination once in a while as well though.

4 – Would you rather draw with chalk or lipstick?

This one is hard! Chalk is fun, but the only chalk I’ve drawn with is sidewalk chalk. I’ve seen some beautiful chalk art though. But lipstick would go on so smooth and easy, and I feel like it would blend pretty easy. I think I would go with chalk though, because it’s cheaper!

5 – Would you rather make a sculpture with mashed potatoes or gum drops?

Gum drops hands down. I am not a sculptor but I think that would be really fun. I am thinking candy land at Christmas time.

6 – Would you rather paint on the ceiling or the floor?

Floor for sure, not because the ceiling wouldn’t be fun. But mostly because I think I would have a neck ache by the second day. But the floor would need some sort of balcony to view it from so I could see the over all and so others could view it as well.

7 – Would you rather paint with pine needles or flower pedals?

Watercolor would be hard with either of these items, but I think for acrylics or oils the pine needles would probably work alright. I think flower pedals would just fall apart. But, if you were to dry either and make non painted art I think it would be cool to use both and so many other things as well.

8 – Would you rather paint a landscape or a space scene?

Landscape for sure. I do enjoy painting the moon and stars, but more from the perspective of standing on the earth, with a landscape included! But I am more of an up close type painter. I like to paint a flower right up next to it, rather than a field of flowers, a moose or bird up close rather than one set in a scene.

9 – Would you rather paint with your fingers or draw with colored pencils?

I think painting with my fingers is fun, and do so occasionally. I haven’t ever done a whole painting like that, but I do enjoy the effects. I am not a huge fan of drawing with colored pencils. I know an artist that uses colored pencils and draws the most beautiful, detailed pictures, but it’s not a medium that I would choose to work with.

10 – Would you rather paint on aluminum foil or waxed paper?

Probably aluminum foil, but obviously not with watercolors. Neither of these would work well with waxed paper. I have made some fun pictures with old crayon shavings and waxed paper though, so I guess it would depend on how you define “painting”.

Well, there are 10 fun “would you rather” questions. I hope you enjoyed these questions and thought of some ways you might answer them as well. I would love to hear which you picked in the comments.
