A lot of people find change difficult. Maybe I’m weird, but I love change, and I have a big change to make now.

Change is Good

There are a lot of people I know who hate change. According to a number of statistics I’ve recently read, 80% of people dislike change, while 30% of the population try to avoid change as much as possible. Only 20% of the population looks forward to change.

I love change. I get bored quickly, so as soon as I figure out how to do something, I am ready to move on to the next thing. This applies to so many aspects of my life. I dislike eating the same food over and over again. My husband is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, especially for Sunday dinner. That is not me. I need some variety.

I love painting and playing the piano. I have stuck with those things longer than most. But I think it’s because I can change it up with a new piece of music, or a new subject matter to paint. I have had people say, “if it gets ruined, you can just paint it again.” Nope. Once I’ve painted that particular reference photo, I will not be painting it again. I think that’s what I love about selling art. I get to try new things, see how it works, keep things fresh.

I have been teaching Seminary for 4 years. This is probably the longest calling I have had in my Church, except primary pianist (I’ve had that one for over 17 years off and on, but usually along with something else). Today, I get to change. I am super excited, because I love the youth and still get to be with them, well, some of them, working with the Young Women.

I have worked with the Young Women many times over the years, and it is one of my favorite places to be. They keep everything fresh, and are game for just about anything. They are excited to try new things, and just excited for life.

Seminary has been such a great place to serve. Getting to know the youth with the mandate to teach them the gospel has taught me so much. The youth are so awesome, and I have been impressed with their strength, their wisdom, and their willingness and excitement to learn more.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to look back and see how each one of my callings has prepared me for the next. I have held the calling I am going in to now, on 2 other occasions, but each time has been different. Each time had it’s own challenges, and each time I grew a little bit more as a person. I hope that those whom I have had the opportunity to serve have also grown through our associations. So, here’s to lessons I’ve learned, and the opportunity to learn more, I am excited!
