I’m writing this on my phone today, so please excuse the spelling errors, and the pictures will have to be at the end.
My husband builds houses as I have mentioned before.ย Before we had kids I would go to work with him almost everyday and help.ย I have learned a lot over the years about building, and feel pretty confident I could build a basic house without instructions.
When our kids were little, we would go visit at lunchtime.ย As they grew up and became more competent, they spent more time on the job, and consequently I spent less and less.ย Now, that the kids are mostly grown, they go to work most of the time and I come with treats a few times a week to check progress and visit.
But sometimes the kids can’t go.ย This week our boys are in Anchorage all week and trusses needed to be set to stay on the correct timeline for completion.ย That means I had the opportunity to go.ย
I think one of my favorite parts of building a house is framing because you go from nothing to the shell of a house in just a few weeks.ย Everything takes shape and many customers find it easier to visualize the finished space once the framing is complete.ย
My daughter, my husband and I worked together and got all the trusses set.ย They weren’t big trusses, and it’s a pretty small house, so it went pretty quickly, although the rain slowed us down a bit yesterday.ย It has been fun to be able to work this week.ย
I am grateful my kids have learned how to work.ย I am grateful my husband does what he does for work, not only so the kids can learn to work, but also so they can see a big job go through the steps and get completed.ย They have a great sense of accomplishment seeing a raw piece of ground turn into a beautiful home.
