Bucket List: General Conference

I don’t have a bucket list, but when my daughter decided she wanted to go to General Conference for our Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I felt like it was super important for her to go, and I wanted to experience it with her.

Conference Center

We have 2 General Conferences a year, the first weekend in April and October, held in Salt Lake City, Utah. There are 6 sessions, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. It is broadcast all over the world, so I’ve always watched it on TV or listened to it on the radio or online. Even growing up in Utah we just never went to see it.

My daughter and I flew down last Wednesday and stayed with my parents. Then on Saturday my other daughter and her fiance, my parents, siblings and their children, all drove to Salt Lake, listening to the Saturday sessions on our way there. We stayed over night at a hotel and got up early Sunday morning to make it to our session.

In our seats

I absolutely love conference weekend, but I have also always loved watching it on TV so I could wear my PJs, and have snacks. But today I learned, I love it on person as well! The Spirit that filled that huge room was so tangible, the speakers were Spirit filled and the Tabernacle Choir was beautiful. I am so grateful for my daughter’s desire to go, and so grateful to feel the importance of sharing that experience with her. I am so grateful many, many family members were able to join us and miss those who weren’t able to come.

While this was a special trip, and definitely not the least expensive was to watch conference, I look forward to some day also coming with my husband and sons. I will continue to love watching in my PJ’s and eating my snacks at home, but I will never forget this opportunity and I look forward to someday coming in person again.
